I’m a sucker for individual-feeling and unique-sounding artists. ‘Nuff said.
Stars – Your Ex-Lover Is Dead
Well no, actually, far from enough.
Stars is a Canadian indie pop band that was formed by friends Amy Millan, Chris Seligman, Torquil Campbell and Evan Cranley in 2000. To date, the band’s musical style has been praised as “breath-takingly effervescent” and “beautiful, eloquent indie pop”.
I seem to be going through a canadian music phase at the moment. Forget Justin Bieber, Carly Rae Jepson and Drake – this is what Canada really has to offer, along with legends such as Leslie Feist, Emily Haines of Metric, The Broken Social Scene (of which Evan Cranley is a permanent member) and Coeur de Pirate.
I discovered these guys quite by accident, really. As is often the case with me, a mistaken click on a strange link led me to this group [insert Success Kid meme here]. Needless to say I am now a dedicated fan. This song is one of my absolute favorites ever – from the melancholic string arrangements and magnificent guitar build-up to the chilling vocals, the song simply echoes musical bliss.
Your Ex-Lover is Dead is the opening track to Star’s third studio album Set Yourself On Fire, released in 2004.
